Prague’s Café Scene

As we head into September it looks like the summer warmth has gone into hiding. Luckily for us, Prague has a fantastic variety of cafes spread across the city. Perfect places to duck in from the cold and set up in a corner with a book and a hot drink for a few hours. Here is a list of our favourite spots for getting your caffeine fix.

Zizkavarna – Kubelikova 1477/17, Zizkov

Small cosy café with free WiFi, friendly service, and a great selection of light snacks. The breakfast burrito is delicious!

Café Pavlac – Vita Nejedleho 487/23, Zizkov

Only a 5-minute walk from Brix, Pavlac is the perfect place to grab a breakfast that will set you up for a day of exploration. They do good pasta if you’re looking for something more substantial. If it’s warm enough, they have a great patio outside and their miniature art gallery (35m2) is worth checking out if you have time.

Kavarna co hleda jmeno – Stroupeznickeho 493/10, Smichov

It’s a bit of a mouthful to say and a tram journey from the centre, but worth it if you’re a coffee aficionado. The industrial interior and interesting art make this a go-to spot for Prague’s hipster community. You’ll find plenty of table space here, so it’s a good choice if you need to pull your laptop out and get some work done.

Standard Café – Karoliny Svetle 321/23, Old Town

Just a couple of blocks from the Charles Bridge, this tiny café is a great choice if you need your caffeine hit without usual Old Town price tag. It’s popular with local students and artists, so expect to hear people discussing Aristotle over a cup of chai latte (and a delicious cake)!

Muj Salek Kavy – Krizikova 105, Karlin

Arguably the best coffee in Prague, these guys have set the benchmark when it comes to high quality coffee. They are part of the rejuvenation of the Karlin district, but with their great popularity comes a snag – it can get very busy there! Prepare to wait a little while (it’s worth it coffee fanatics!), and if you’re planning on eating there it might be worth calling ahead.

Super Tramp Café – Krizikova 105, Opatovicka 160/18, New Town

Definitely not the easiest place to find, but a real hidden gem! Popular with locals, Super Tramp can be found in a quiet old courtyard, the perfect spot to escape from the hustle and bustle of Wenceslas Square.
