Who?

Before the Kardashians, 1984 was the year that Steve Jobs broke the internet. You may not remember what team won the Superbowl that year, but how could you forget the hot-girl-swinging-a-hammer-at-robotic-men-in-suits-controlled-by-Big-Brother apple ad? Introducing Apple’s Macintosh computer for the first time, it’s an advertisement that like many of Job’s work transcends temporal boundaries. He was by all measures a man of the future, working alongside Steve Wozniak to create the technological monolith that is Apple today. Job’s resume is far from humble, funding and directing the beginning of Pixar and revolutionizing the music industry with the creation of iTunes. Whatever you do, don’t compare your CV to Steve Jobs –– you’ll be sorely disappointed.

Why?

Imagine what it would’ve been like to open up Steve Job’s closet only to find a black swarm of Issey Miyake turtlenecks. On a nearby table sits his circular wire framed glasses he purchased to imitate the likes of Ghadi. The man was particular to the point of frustration. But without his tenacity, it’s hard to imagine a reality without thin laptops that slide into your backpacks or the small rectangle we know as a mobile phone that link you to the world. We’ve developed a whole new galaxy of possibilities from the days of the Apple Macintosh, a world where technology now plays an integral part of everyday life - providing intuitive access to services and connections at the touch of a button.

Why we love them...

An apple a day keeps… well a lot of things away. Without the inventions of Steve Jobs we’d be pretty out of touch. We have become quite dependent on the lit up squares that we use to talk to old friends, schedule a work meeting, or watch a funny cat video. Becoming such a world-changing figure, it’s hard to maintain an air of composure - but Steve Jobs was always the respectable, humble and charismatic man that would present revolutionary ideas to the whole world - and do so with respect. He’s a constant reminder to BRIX to stay humble, respect our guests, and to remember that the experience is the product.
